This is a VERY common objection to being a Christian. In this article we will explore why people believe this, and why it is a MISTAKE for us to cling to this notion as a basis for our unbelief or lack of spirituality. Let me ask you this question: Is there a difference between religion & spirituality??? I believe there is. But... Do the MAJORITY of those reading this believe that? Remember the old saying "Nobody's perfect?" Why are their so many of us that believe this saying, but still think that to be Christian denotes perfection? (especially HUMAN perfection!) If all of this is true, why do people believe these ridiculous ideas? Let's start with ministers, clergyman, pastors. Romans 3:4- ...Let God be true & every man a liar... Now, I'm not telling you not to listen to your pastor! But I am saying "let GOD be the truth!" When you are Christian (or want to be) the word of God is the only thing you are supposed to believe! In other words, DON'T go to church thinking wearing a dress, having you hair cut a certain way, not smoking cigerettes or how many times you've been to church this week, (and doing all this because the pastor says this is what to do) determines whether or not you are Christian! "God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth."-John 4:24 Who is truth? The pastor? The people you base your spirituality on? "Jesus answered, I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but through me."-John 14:6 "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me."- John 10:27 "You are my friends if you do what I command."-John 15:14 Let me ask you... Are the people you're looking to as your "Christian" example doing what Jesus commands? Matt.7:17 "...a bad tree bears bad fruit." What type of fruit are the "examples" in your life bearing??? For instance, have you ever heard someone say "I'm on a diet", then watch them eat a twinkie? After seeing them do that, you no longer believe they're on a diet, do you? Likewise, do not believe anyone who either TELLS you or LEADS you to believe Christians are perfect! The only thing that gives us any level of perfection is the blood of Christ. When you become saved, you are covered in Christs' blood. This is so the father may look upon us as his "children." It is not that we "become" perfect; it's that God only "sees" (or is distracted by) Christs' DNA (DNA identifies him personally!). Trust me when I tell you, this was the ONLY way he could save us! God KNEW we were not & could not be PERFECT! Do you know the reason our "walk with Christ" is refered to as "personal"? Because we are to "Work out our OWN salvation with fear and trembling!"- Philippians 2:12 I believe this scripture is trying to tell us, we have a hard enough task keeping our own flesh in line with the will of God. Why do we consider what another does or base our salvation on someone elses??? "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"- Matt.7:3 Again we see another scripture pointing the finger in the same direction...Towards ourselves!!! So what's the point here??? I think the point is that by our sinful, human, carnal nature, we tend to look for the bad in people first; then look for the good! Be careful, if you are one of these kind of people. Ask yourself: "Am I the kind of person who looks for the bad in others?" Why do I look for the bad? Is it so I: can feel good about myself
use it against them in another area
can discredit the good in them, because I can't find anything bad!!!!! We all make mistakes. Do not let what someone else is doing determine your walk with the Lord! If we were all following the advice to "work out our own salvation", think how much harder it would be to point the finger! Happy worshipping!!!!!!!!
***The word "Hypocrite" occurs 18 times in NIV, with 17 of those times in the New Testament!
I told you God knew we wouldn't be perfect! LOL!
